OUR OBJECTIVES

A CARBON FOOTPRINT DIVIDED BY 5

Through the use high performing sail-wing associated with an hybrid mechanical propulsion, our vessel will have a carbon footprint reduced by 70% and no emissions of sulphur dioxide.

International maritime organization (IMO) steadily strengthens regulation regarding emission of polluting gases to face with environmental concerns.

Performances two times higher than the classic sails

Our vessel has two retractable wings designed by VPLP design. With a proven record in the sailing race competition, those patented wings deliver performances two times higher than the classic sails. The wings are entirely computerized to have permanent optimal settings.

Continuous optimization of wind energy

The vessel will be equipped with a meteorological routing system integrating wind forecast and performance polars. This technology implemented in partnership with Avelaj that will allow us to optimize continuously the use of wind energy to respect our schedules.

Renewable energy generators

To ensure maneuver in the port and assist the wing-sails in case of low wind, the cargo is equipped with an auxiliary diesel-eclectric engine. The needs in electricity for the life on board will be partially covered by modules collecting renewable energies (photovoltaic pannels, retractable hydrokinetic turbine).

The sailing cargo of tomorrow will be performant and cost effective. To design it, we work with the best experts in the field : 

Marc Van Peteghem, co-founder of the naval achitecture firm VPLP, he is among the most recognised architect in the world. Experts, innovative, and passionate, Marc brings an reliable expertise to the conception of our cargo.  

Michel Chapalain, merchant navy officer, and former fleet manager, is today fouding partner of the maritime engeneering firm Avelaj. Expert in the filed of hybrid nave, Avelaj already worked in the conceprtion of major sailing liners. Michel Chapalain brings a versatile expertise enabling us to combine the most advanced maritime technologies on our cargo.

The price of freight is correlated to oil prices variations. our vessel has a very low oil energy consumption as a result our competitiveness will rise up with the oil prices increase.

INCREASE OF REGULATION CONSTRAINTS

According to OECD the volume of international trade is to grow fourfold by 2050. Consequently, the maritime regulation is step by step prohibiting the use of the most contaminating gases and encouraging the shipping companies to move to alternative solutions.

NILS JOYEUX

Co-founder - Master
Merchant navy officer graduated from ENSM of Le Havre and former sailing competitor, Nils worked on different type of merchant vessels as lieutenant and mechanical officer before deciding to found Z&B.
He is coordinating the technical and sales development of Z&B project.

Amaury Bolvin

Co-founder - Business Developer
Graduated from EDHEC Business School, Amaury was previously business developer Asia for a multinational company. He has a previous experiences in consulting firm and managemet of business development projects.
Passionate in sailing since his early ages, Amaury has naturally joined Nils in the project to merge his passion and his competences. Communicative, fluent in spanish and english, he is in charge of the business development of Zéphyr & Borée.

ALBAN LAUGIERO

Naval architect
Graduated from the merchant navy school ENSM of Le Havre, Alban has been merchant navy officer for 7 years mainly on vessel specialized in the submarine cables laying.
He then quit to study naval architecture at ENSA Nantes. As a naval architect Alban acquired a rich versatility. He is in charge of the vessel design and work with our partner VPLP design.

NINA MAILLOT

Technical officer
Graduated from the ENSM of Marseille. Nina is merchant navy officer
Passionate about energy challenges, Nina became researcher at ENSM after having done her master thesis on vessel energy optimization.  Nina will be in charge of the mechanical engineering and work with Avelaj on the supervision of our shipyard. She already worked on diverse shipyard.
